    Tamika Alexander of Tuscaloosa 2-1-1 and Karen Thompson from Temporary Emergency Services

    Tamika Alexander will be discussing  2-1-1 Information and Referral service help line. The Individual Development Account--a matched savings program and Coast2Coast prescription discount cards. Tamika Alexander currently works at during the day at United Way as the 2-1-1 Information and Referral. At night she serves as the 10 p.m. anchor for WVUA-TV. Tamika holds a Bachelor of Communications degree from the University of Alabama. She is an active member of several organizations including: Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce, America’s Promise, West Alabama Homeless Coalition, Leadership Tuscaloosa graduate and Junior League of Tuscaloosa. Outside of her professional interest she loves being mom to her 8 year old son Jayden, traveling, shopping and cooking.

     

     

    Karen Thompson the Executive Director of TES will discuss Temporary Emergency Services Inc. (TES)--  a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in crisis situations. Churches in the Tuscaloosa Community funded TES in 1945 to serve clients unable to receive assistance from local social services agencies.

    TES and the Thrift Store serve residents of Tuscaloosa County on an as needed basis. TES receives donations from United Way, local businesses, churches, and individuals.

    TES assists individuals and families in crisis situations in order to allow the clients to survive the immediate crisis they are encountering. TES operates its programs efficiently and effectively, thereby maximizing its limited resources, and the productivity of its employees. TES utilizes programs and services that have been successful for other public, private, and nonprofit organizations.
